Efficient construction process created Nordic Ecolabled residential building
Skanska has constructed one of Sweden’s first Nordic Ecolabled residential buildings in the Stationsmästaren block in central Söderköping. The building was constructed under Skanska’s ModernaHus concept which halved the construction time, decreased construction costs and reduced energy consumption by 25 percent. The concept was the first in the Nordic region to receive a Ecolabel license.
Ecolabeling means that the building meets a series of rigorous environmental requirements, including low energy consumption and low environmental impact.
The Stationsmästaren block was built following the ModernaHus construction process. Instead of constructing the building on site, the framework and façade were cast in Skanska’s plant in Strängnäs, which meant that the building was completed in record time.
The turf-cutting ceremony took place in May 2011, the building was completed in January 2012 and the first tenants moved into the climate-smart apartments in February. Each apartment is equipped with water saving toilets and taps and energy labeled appliances. The apartments also have individual meters for household electricity, heating and hot water, which means that the residents can influence their energy consumption themselves.
