Skanska has been commissioned to expand the existing final repository for short-lived radioactive waste (SFR) in Forsmark. The assignment is carried out through a collaboration agreement with the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company (SKB).
Today, the existing SFR holds approximately 63,000 cubic meters of short-lived low- and medium-level operational waste. Skanska's assignment is to construct an additional 117,000 cubic meters of storage space, divided into various rock caverns. The expansion is planned to be located at a depth of 120 to 140 meters in the bedrock, at the same level as the lowest part of the existing SFR.
