Sustainability

We take responsibility for our own activities and set demands for our suppliers and subcontractors through active sustainability work. We also aim to work towards improving the local communities in which we operate by contributing to social sustainability in whatever way we can.

Work safely or not at all

In our opinion, it goes without saying that our employees should come home from work healthy and uninjured. Therefore we are constantly working to ensure that our work sites operate in a safe and responsible way. Our goal is accident-free and healthy work sites.

Everyone should come home uninjured

We have, among other measures, introduced safer working methods and set stricter requirements regarding expertise and personal equipment. Obviously, everyone should get to come home from work healthy and uninjured. That is why we are also constantly working to ensure we run our construction projects, production facilities and offices so that everyone working there feels safe and happy.

Safety Week

We are constantly working to ensure safety at our work sites improves on a daily basis all year round. But one week every year is specifically devoted to activities, commitment and reflection linked to safety and wellbeing. We call this Safety Week.

Ethics issues in focus

Skanska works actively on ethical issues on a daily basis. We do this because high ethical standards give us peace of mind and strengthen our brand. When we have an open corporate climate where all of us working here feel confident to discuss, act and react, then we also have a workplace where everyone thrives and feels comfortable.

The sustainable opportunity

Sustainable construction encompasses both what and how we build and our project development and production. Our vision is for the environmental impact of what we build and produce for our customers, as well as our own activities, to be as close to zero as possible. We also have a vision of being climate-neutral by 2045.

Building sustainable societies

We have experience of building houses and premises that are largely self-sufficient in terms of energy and have developed plus-energy houses – houses that generate more energy than they consume. We are building infrastructure with a significantly smaller carbon footprint and we are manufacturing asphalt and concrete products with the aid of biofuels and using less energy. 

Social sustainability – an investment in people

We want to build a socially sustainable society through our projects. This involves many different opportunities to make a positive contribution to community development. For us, social sustainability means, on our own initiative and together with our customers, investing in people, society and the future – and simultaneously developing our business. We work together with customers, partners and other community players to identify needs at an early stage in the process and to find frameworks and unique solutions to generate both commercial benefit and public benefit.

A role model within diversity

For us, it is important that Skanska reflects the society in which we operate. In order to be the role model we want to be with regard to diversity, we need to create favourable conditions for employee development as well as inclusive workplaces where staff thrive and want to stay.
